We are thrilled to see Gwen Parry-Jones as interim Chief Executive Officer at Great British Nuclear.
Gwen Parry-Jones was the first woman in the UK to run a nuclear power station, as the Station Director of Heysham 1 power station. Gwen has also been awarded an OBE for services to science and technology.
To celebrate the great women powering the nuclear industry in the South West, we spoke to Maggie Brown at EDF, who shares what she does, and how she got to be where she is the nuclear spectrum.
Maggie Brown is currently the Lead for Supplier Relationship Management for the HPC Project. In practice, this means Maggie and her team are responsible for understanding overall risk and performance challenges across the supply chain, for improving relationships and communication with suppliers (and prospective supplier) and for identifying and implementing improvement opportunities that arise from supplier engagement. Maggie has worked on the HPC project since shortly after it received its Final Investment Decision in Autumn of 2016.
Prior to joining the HPC Project, Maggie worked for Crossrail as part of the award-winning Innovate 18 Programme which was recognised as setting the standard for innovation delivery in Major Infrastructure Programmes. Maggie currently sits on the Nuclear Innovation Research and Advisory Board (NIRAB) and was also instrumental is establishing the Infrastructure Industry Innovation Platform (i3P).
Maggie is passionate about enabling innovation in the infrastructure sector, particularly as it relates to supporting the renaissance of nuclear in the U.K. She recognises that fresh ideas often come from smaller local and regional businesses, and she is working closely with key local and regional partners not only to continue to drive engagement and innovation at HPC, but also to understand how to build on the legacy of HPC and continue the development of the nuclear supply chain in the U.K. to support future projects. Maggie’s professional experience is backed by an Msc in Political Sociology and an undergraduate BA in Political Science.
