As Nuclear South West marks one year since returning to full operational activity, we are pleased to reflect on the progress made and the foundations established to support the region’s long‑term nuclear ambitions. Over the past twelve months, NSW has focused on strengthening governance, reconnecting stakeholders, and ensuring that the South West’s capability is recognised at national level.
Reconstitution of the NSW Board
A newly re‑established Board now brings together senior representatives from industry, academia and regional partners. This group provides strategic oversight, supports alignment with national priorities, and ensures that the South West’s strengths are effectively represented across civil and defence nuclear programmes.
Delivery of the NSW Relaunch Event
Our first NSW event successfully reconnected stakeholders from across the region, highlighted emerging opportunities, and set the foundation for a renewed programme of engagement. The event marked an important milestone in re‑establishing NSW as an active and visible regional cluster.
Formation of the Nuclear Regional Cluster Group
NSW is now part of a coordinated national network of regional nuclear clusters. This group works collectively to strengthen UK capability, share insight, and support supply chain development across new build, decommissioning and advanced nuclear technologies. Participation ensures that the South West’s perspective is embedded within wider national discussions.
Support for South West Businesses
Throughout the year, NSW has provided targeted support to SMEs and suppliers across the region. This has included signposting opportunities, facilitating introductions, and sharing sector updates to help businesses navigate opportunities in new build, decommissioning and advanced nuclear programmes. Strengthening the regional supply chain remains a core priority for NSW.
These activities have established a strong platform for further growth and collaboration over the coming year. As national momentum builds around major programmes, NSW will continue to champion the South West’s capability and support the organisations driving the region’s nuclear future.
