Nuclear South West convened the first meeting of its refreshed Board this week, bringing together senior leaders from across civil nuclear, defence, fusion, academia, local government and professional services. The session marked an important step in shaping a renewed programme of activity to support the region’s position as the UK’s most diverse and dynamic nuclear cluster.
The Board discussed the major opportunities ahead for the South West, including the long‑term legacy of Hinkley Point C, the region’s growing role in advanced nuclear and fusion, and the importance of strengthening sovereign capability in critical skills, technologies and supply chain capacity. Members emphasised the need for a coordinated regional approach that builds on existing strengths while preparing for future programmes and investment.
A strong theme throughout the meeting was the importance of collaboration, across sectors, across local authorities and across the wider UK nuclear landscape. Board members highlighted the value of shared insight, joint initiatives and clear regional messaging to ensure the South West continues to attract innovation, talent and high‑value jobs.
The Board will now work together to refine a focused set of priority areas for the coming 12–24 months. These priorities will guide Nuclear South West’s activity and ensure the region is well positioned to contribute to national programmes, support industry growth and maximise long‑term economic benefit.
