South West Surges Ahead: Nuclear Jobs Map 2025 Highlights Regional Growth

The Nuclear Industry Association’s newly released Jobs Map 2025 confirms what many in the sector already know: the South West is leading the UK’s civil nuclear workforce transformation.

With 31,000 people now employed across the region, the South West has tripled its nuclear workforce in just a decade, up from 8,000 in 2015. This remarkable growth reflects a 15% year-on-year increase, the highest in the country, and underscores the region’s strategic importance in delivering the UK’s energy security and industrial revival.

Much of this growth is driven by the scale and momentum of Hinkley Point C, which now supports over 12,500 jobs on site, alongside thousands more across the supply chain. But the story doesn’t end there. The South West’s strength lies in its depth and diversity, from advanced manufacturing and modular build to consultancy, decommissioning, and defence crossover.

Companies across the region are delivering real-world impact, supported by a culture of collaboration, skills investment, and long-term stewardship. SMEs are scaling up, mentoring apprentices, and embedding ESG-aligned practices into their operations.

As the UK prepares for Sizewell C replication, SMR deployment, and cross-sector innovation, the South West is well-positioned to lead. The region’s workforce, supply chain capability, and commitment to talent development make it a natural hub for delivery, resilience, and legacy.

The South West is not just participating in the UK’s nuclear future. It’s helping to build it.
