Nuclear South West was pleased to attend the NIA’s SME Group Meeting in Bristol on March 26th, with both Sam Orchard and Corinne Matthews representing the region’s growing nuclear ecosystem.
The event brought together more than 150 delegates from across the UK supply chain, showcasing the depth, diversity and ambition of SMEs working in nuclear new build, decommissioning, defence and advanced technologies.
Hosted at the Delta Hotel in Bristol, the day combined networking, exhibition space and a packed “Listen and Learn” session featuring practical insights from businesses at every stage of their growth journey. Speakers covered topics ranging from setting up and scaling a nuclear‑focused SME, to diversifying capability, navigating security vetting, and accessing R&D tax credits. The energy in the room reflected a sector that is expanding rapidly and preparing for the opportunities ahead. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing Scott White of Berry & Escott Engineering who delivered a presentation to the room on their journey to transitioning to a supplier in the nuclear sector.
For the South West, the event reinforced the strength of our regional supply chain and the importance of continued collaboration as national programmes accelerate. With major reforms underway through the Nuclear Regulatory Review and the Advanced Nuclear Framework, SMEs will play a crucial role in delivering future projects and ensuring the UK has the capability and capacity to meet rising demand.
