On 30th September, Nuclear South West joined a packed room of SMEs, Tier 1s, and UKAEA teams at the SME Collaborative Showcase in Culham, a well-structured, high-energy event designed to spotlight supplier capability and strengthen connections across the fusion supply chain.
With exhibition stands, expert-led workshops, and ample time for networking, the day offered more than just introductions. It provided clear evidence that fusion opportunities are not just on the horizon, they’re already taking shape. Despite scepticism in some quarters, the Showcase made a compelling case

for the sector’s momentum and the strategic importance of SME engagement.
Workshops on bid writing, procurement navigation, and pipeline planning offered practical support for suppliers navigating complex processes.
Crucially, attendees were also given space to voice concerns and share lived experiences, a welcome signal that UKAEA is listening and committed to improving supplier pathways.
For Nuclear South West, the event reinforced the value of regional collaboration and the role of South West suppliers in shaping the future of fusion. We were proud to be part of the conversation and even prouder to see the sector’s ambition matched by action.
