ZEPT ICOND: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUCLEAR DECOMMISSIONING

Organised by: ICOND

Venue: Eurogress Aachen • Monheimsallee 48 • 52062 Aachen • Germany

Website link

The leading decommissioning conference in the EU with keynote speaker Dr. Guido Knott, CEO PreussenElekra. More than 300 international participants and an accompanying company and tecnology exhibition.

The closure and decommissioning of nuclear power plants, particularly power reactors, present high demands regarding planning and authorization to all parties involved. In the ongoing decade several nuclear power plants will be shut down due to their operating life and political decisions, not only in Europe, but also worldwide. As a result, optimized decommissioning strategies will need  to be well-coordinated among all participants.

The ICOND focuses on the relevant legal parameters in Germany and compares decommissioning strategies worldwide. This includes roles of authorization, financial planning, and change management in the transition from nuclear power plant to decommissioned project. Furthermore the different options for interim storage and disposal of radioactive waste are discussed.

ICOND addresses operators of nuclear plants and companies who are working on the planning, implementation and supervision of decommissioning projects; authorities and technical experts whose focus includes the approval and supervisions procedure of decommissioning projects; and research institutions, which are responsible for the dismantling of research reactors and the storage and/or disposal of radioactive hazardous waste.

ICOND will enable participants to proficiently discuss the challenges of the decommissioning of nuclear plants in a practical way, and to define optimal planning variants for decommissioning implementation. Simultaneous translation (German/English/Russian) will be available.

How to Use Innovation to Get into Nuclear

One of the key challenges in the nuclear industry right now is bringing innovation into the supply chain, to solve problems and bring down cost, while maintaining safety.

Small businesses, universities and companies from other sectors all have the ability to disrupt the current supply chain. This informal workshop provided by SW Nuclear Hub and Nuclear South West will provide examples of innovation that have been adopted by the nuclear supply chain and offer practical help for any company interested in connecting with nuclear.

Speakers from SW Nuclear Hub, Nuclear KTN, Forrest Brown, Hinkley Supply Chain Programme, and local companies will share their experience and knowledge.

During the workshop we’ll explore:

  • the benefits and challenges for bringing new solutions into nuclear
  • how universities connect with industry
  • support and funding available to small businesses, including R&D tax credits
  • examples of how companies have successfully entered the nuclear sector

At the end of the event there will be an opportunity to connect with contacts in the industry over a networking lunch.

Book your free tickets here.
